SUA BEATITUDINE RAPHAËL BEDROS XXI MINASSIAN

Il Sinodo dei Vescovi della Chiesa Patriarcale di Cilicia degli Armeni (i cattolici armeni) – convocato dal Papa - ha eletto Patriarca Raphaël François Minassian, finora Arcivescovo titolare di Cesarea di Cappadocia degli Armeni e Ordinario per i fedeli armeni cattolici dell’Europa Orientale.

L’eletto, che è il 21° Patriarca di Cilicia degli Armeni,  ha assunto il nome di Sua Beatitudine Raphaël Bedros XXI Minassian.

Nato il 24 novembre 1946 a Beirut, ha studiato a Roma presso le università Gregoriana e Salesiana. Il 24 giugno 1973 è stato ordinato sacerdote. Parroco, insegnante di liturgia, si è poi trasferito negli Stati Uniti.

Nel 2005 è stato nominato Esarca Patriarcale di Gerusalemme ed Amman per gli Armeni. Il 24 giugno 2011 è stato nominato Ordinario per i Fedeli Armeni Cattolici dell’Europa Orientale e Vescovo titolare vescovile di Cesarea di Cappadocia degli Armeni.

Succede al Patriarca Krikor Bedros XX Ghabroyan, scomparso lo scorso maggio.

Il Patriarcato di Cilicia degli Armeni, eretto il 26 novembre 1742, estende la sua giurisdizione su tutti i fedeli armeno-cattolici che dimorano nel territorio proprio della Chiesa armeno-cattolica, ossia nelle regioni che tradizionalmente sono riconosciute come il luogo di origine di questa Chiesa sui iuris.

La sede del patriarcato si trova a Bzoummar nel distretto di Kisrawan in Libano. L'arcieparchia di Beirut è la sede propria del patriarca; qui si trova la cattedrale patriarcale dei Santi Elia e Gregorio Illuminatore.

NEW PATRIARCH OF ARMENIAN CILICIA ELECTED

(His Beatitude Raphaël Bedros XXI Minassian, Patriarch of Cilicia of the Armenians)

The Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchal Church of Cilicia of the Armenians (Armenian Catholics) - convoked by the Pope - has elected Patriarch Raphaël François Minassian, hitherto Titular Archbishop of Caesarea of Cappadocia of the Armenians and Ordinary for the Armenian Catholic faithful of Eastern Europe.

The elected, who is the 21st Patriarch of Cilicia of the Armenians, has taken the name of His Beatitude Raphaël Bedros XXI Minassian.

He was Born on 24 November 1946 in Beirut and studied in Rome at the Gregorian and Salesian Universities. He was ordained a priest on 24 June 1973. A parish priest and liturgy teacher, he then moved to the United States.

In 2005 he was appointed Patriarchal Exarch of Jerusalem and Amman for the Armenians. On 24 June 2011 he was appointed Ordinary for the Armenian Catholic Faithful of Eastern Europe and titular Bishop of Caesarea of Cappadocia for the Armenians.

He succeeds Patriarch Krikor Bedros XX Ghabroyan, who passed away last May.

The Patriarchate of Cilicia of the Armenians, erected on 26 November 1742, extends its jurisdiction over all the Armenian Catholic faithful living in the territory of the Armenian Catholic Church, i.e. in the regions traditionally recognised as the place of origin of this Church sui iuris.

The seat of the Patriarchate is in Bzoummar in the Kisrawan district of Lebanon. The archieparchy of Beirut is the proper seat of the patriarch; the patriarchal cathedral of Saints Elijah and Gregory the Illuminator is located here.
