DICHIARAZIONE DEL CONCISTORO DELL’UNIONE ANGLICANA PER LA DIFFUSIONE DEL VANGELO IN ORDINE ALLA FEDELTA’ ALL’ORTODOSSIA

In occasione del Concistoro dell’Unione Anglicana per la diffusione del Vangelo, organizzazione anglicana della quale fa parte il nostro confratello Vescovo Kevin Francis Donlon, ECLJ, i Vescovi Patroni riuniti presso la Diocesi di Dar Es Salaam, il 13 e 14 gennaio 2023, hanno emesso una solenne dichiarazione rivolta a tutti i membri della Comunione Anglicana invitandoli a restare fedeli al Vangelo e promuovere la fede e la tradizione storica dell’anglicanesimo.

Hanno ribadito di sostenere la visione ortodossa delle Scritture come Parola di Dio ispirata, pienamente e definitivamente autorevole per tutte le questioni di fede e di condotta, e di volersi attenere fedelmente ai principi storici per l'Unità, come descritto nel Quadrilatero di Lambeth di Chicago, praticando il culto secondo le norme del Book of Common Prayer (Libro delle Preghiere Comuni).

E’ stata riaffermata la posizione dell'Unione Anglicana in ordine alla fede storica della Chiesa una, santa, cattolica e apostolica, offrendo il proprio sostegno sia al clero che ai laici per rimanere fedeli alla fede ortodossa.

In quella occasione è stato eletto il nuovo Decano dell’Unione nella persona del Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbelwa, Vescovo di Lweru, ed il Rt. Rev. Raphael Haule, Vescovo di Ruvuma come Segretario del Concistoro.

La dichiarazione è stata sottoscritta dal Rt. Rev. Michael Hafidh, Vescovo di Zanzibar, dal Rt. Rev. Raphael Haule, Vescovo di Ruvuma, dal Rt. Rev. Peter Abraham Joh, Vescovo di Malek, dal Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbelwa, Vesvovo di Lweru e dal Rt. Rev. Sosthenes Jackson, Vescovo di Dar Es Salaam.

Si tratta, come di tutta evidenza, di una presa di distanza da certe decisioni relative al sacerdozio femminile ed ai matrimoni omosessuali prese dalla Chiesa d’Inghilterra, che hanno portato nel mese di febbraio anche al ritiro del riconoscimento del titolo di Primate della Comunione Anglicana in capo all’attuale Arcivescovo di Canterbury da parte delle Province Anglicane facenti capo al Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches.

Anche i Vescovi Anglicani del Sud Africa, lo scorso 3 marzo, hanno respinto la richiesta di introduzione della benedizione delle unioni omosessuali.

STATEMENT BY THE CONSISTORY OF THE ANGLICAN UNION FOR THE SPREAD OF THE GOSPEL IN REGARD TO FIDELITY TO ORTHODOXY

(The bishops of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa)

On the occasion of the Consistory of the Anglican Union for the Spreading of the Gospel, an Anglican organization of which our confrere Bishop Kevin Francis Donlon, ECLJ, is a member, the Patron Bishops gathered at the Diocese of Dar Es Salaam on Jan. 13 and 14, 2023, issued a solemn statement addressed to all members of the Anglican Communion calling on them to remain faithful to the Gospel and promote the faith and historical tradition of Anglicanism.

They reaffirmed that they uphold the Orthodox view of the Scriptures as the inspired Word of God, fully and definitively authoritative for all matters of faith and conduct, and that they intend to hold faithfully to the historic principles for Unity, as described in Chicago's Lambeth Quadrilateral, by worshipping according to the standards of the Book of Common Prayer.

The position of the Anglican Union regarding the historic faith of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church was reaffirmed, offering support to both clergy and laity to remain faithful to the Orthodox faith.

On that occasion, the new Dean of the Union was elected in the person of Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbelwa, Bishop of Lweru, and Rt. Rev. Raphael Haule, Bishop of Ruvuma as Secretary of the Consistory.

The declaration was signed by Rt. Rev. Rev. Michael Hafidh, Bishop of Zanzibar, by Rt. Rev. Raphael Haule, Bishop of Ruvuma, by Rt. Rev. Peter Abraham Joh, Bishop of Malek, by the Rt. Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbelwa, Bishop of Lweru, and by the Rt. Rev. Sosthenes Jackson, Bishop of Dar Es Salaam.

This is, as is evident, a distancing from certain decisions regarding the female priesthood and same-sex marriages made by the Church of England, which also led in February to the withdrawal of the recognition of the title of Primate of the Anglican Communion in the head of the current Archbishop of Canterbury by the Anglican Provinces under the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches.

Also the bishops of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, last March 3, have declined the request to permit clergy to bless same-sex civil unions.
