DONAZIONE DEL GRAN BALIATO ALLA FONDAZIONE RAOUL FOLLERAU DELLA LOTTA CONTRO LA LEBBRA

Il Gran Baliato di Sicilia ha riversato alla Fondazione Raoul Follerau la raccolta di fondi effettuata durante la cerimonia delle investiture del 25 gennaio u.s., giornata internazionale della lotta contro la lebbra.

L’Ordine di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme è fin dalle sue origini impegnato sul fronte della lotta alla lebbra alla quale contribuisce sia attraverso le proprie strutture sanitarie che attraverso donazioni agli enti che operano in questo settore con progetti specifici.

La Fondazione Raoul-Follereau è una fondazione benefica indipendente che lotta contro ogni tipo di esclusione sociale causata da malattie, in particolare la lebbra, l'ignoranza e la povertà.

Nel 1943, Raoul e Madeleine Follereau furono accolti dalle Suore Missionarie di Nostra Signora degli Apostoli a Vénissieux. La superiora della congregazione, Madre Eugenia Ravasio, li introdusse alla difficile situazione dei lebbrosi, socialmente esclusi e trascurati dal punto di vista medico. Aveva fondato un nuovo tipo di lebbrosario ad Adzopé (oggi in Costa d'Avorio), che aveva inaugurato nel 1942, ma non aveva i fondi per trasformarlo in un villaggio modello. Raoul Follereau fu entusiasta del progetto e decise di intraprendere un giro di conferenze per raccogliere i fondi necessari. Questo segnò l'inizio di una collaborazione che sarebbe durata diversi anni. Fu anche l'inizio di una vocazione: da allora in poi, Raoul e Madeleine Follereau si dedicarono alla difesa dei lebbrosi e alla lotta contro la lebbra.

Nel 1968, Raoul Follereau fondò l'associazione nota come "Fondazioni Raoul Follereau". Dopo la sua morte, avvenuta nel 1977, l'opera fu proseguita dai suoi successori, André Récipon, dal 1968 al 1992, e poi dal figlio Michel fino al 2020. Nel 1984, la Fondazione Raoul Follereau fu istituita e riconosciuta come ente di pubblica utilità. Si dedica principalmente alla lotta contro la lebbra e l'esclusione sociale, operando in circa venticinque paesi, principalmente in Africa e Asia. Gestisce centri di cura per i malati di lebbra e per coloro che soffrono di altre malattie, impegnandosi anche nell'educazione dei bambini e nel reinserimento professionale delle persone svantaggiate.

DONATION OF THE GRAND BAILIWICK TO THE FOUNDATION RAOUL FOLLERAU OF THE FIGHT AGAINST LEPROSY

The Grand Bailiwick of Sicily has donated to the Raoul Follerau Foundation the fundraising campaign carried out during the investiture ceremony on January 25, the International Day of the Fight against Leprosy.

The Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem has been committed to the fight against leprosy since its inception, contributing both through its own healthcare facilities and through donations to organizations working in this sector with specific projects.

The Raoul-Follereau Foundation is an independent charitable foundation that fights against all types of social exclusion caused by diseases, particularly leprosy, ignorance, and poverty.

In 1943, Raoul and Madeleine Follereau were welcomed by the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Apostles in Vénissieux. The superior of the congregation, Mother Eugenia Ravasio, introduced them to the plight of lepers, who were socially excluded and medically neglected. He had founded a new type of leper colony in Adzopé (now in Ivory Coast), which he had inaugurated in 1942, but did not have the funds to transform it into a model village. Raoul Follereau was enthusiastic about the project and decided to undertake a speaking tour to raise the necessary funds. This marked the beginning of a collaboration that would last several years. It was also the beginning of a vocation: from then on, Raoul and Madeleine Follereau devoted themselves to defending lepers and fighting leprosy.

In 1968, Raoul Follereau founded the association known as the "Raoul Follereau Foundations". After his death in 1977, the work was continued by his successors, André Récipon, from 1968 to 1992, and then by his son Michel until 2020. In 1984, the Raoul Follereau Foundation was established and recognized as a public utility. It is mainly dedicated to the fight against leprosy and social exclusion, operating in around twenty-five countries, mainly in Africa and Asia. It runs treatment centres for leprosy sufferers and those suffering from other diseases, while also working on the education of children and the professional reintegration of disadvantaged persons.
