NUOVA PUBBLICAZIONE DELL’ACCADEMIA INTERNAZIONALE DELL’ORDINE DI SAN LAZZARO

L'esigenza di fornire servizi ai pellegrini che visitavano la Terra Santa, unita alla necessità di proteggere continuamente questi pellegrini e di combattere le forze islamiche minacciose, portò allo sviluppo di una nuova versione degli Ordini monastici: i Monaci guerrieri.

Questi Ordini crociati mantenevano una duplice funzione: una era quella di fornire servizi ai pellegrini, mentre l'altra di contribuire alla difesa del regno. Lavorando all'interno di una comunità relativamente unita, era logico che questi Ordini interagissero tra loro e formassero alleanze distinte.

Quando crearono queste organizzazioni monastiche, i confratelli guardarono alle regole promulgate per gli Ordini monastici precedenti, in particolare alla Regola di San Benedetto e a quella di Sant'Agostino. Hanno anche “preso in prestito” regolamenti specifici gli uni dagli altri.

The need to provide services to pilgrims visiting the Holy Land, coupled to the need to continuously protect these pilgrims and fight off the threating Islamic forces, led to the development of a new version of Monastic Orders – the Monks of War.

These Crusader Orders maintained a dual function, one providing pilgrim services, while the other contributed to the defence of the realm. Working within a relatively tight-knit community, it stood to reason that these Orders interacted between themselves and formed distinct alliances.

When setting up these monastic organizations, the brethren looked towards the rules promulgated for earlier established Monastic Orders, particularly the Rule of Saint Benedict and of Saint Augustine. They also 'borrowed' specific regulations from each other.
