DEL GRAN BALIATO DI SICILIA

Lo scorso 9 e 10 luglio 2021 si è celebrato il capitolo per le investiture del Gran Baliato di Sicilia presso la Chiesa Capitolare Lazzarita del Sacro Cuore in Monreale, presieduto dal Gran Balì di Sicilia S.E. Dr. Pino Zingale, GCLJ-J e dal Cappellano Maggiore del Gran Baliato e Gran Priore Spirituale dell’Ordine S.E. Mons. Michele Pennisi, GCLJ, Arcivescovo Abate di Monreale.

La solenne cerimonia di investitura è stata preceduta, il giorno prima, dalla consueta Veglia di Preghiera.

Durante il Capitolo hanno ricevuto l’investitura i nuovi confratelli Avv. Angelo Infantino, MLJ, il Prof. Avv. l’avv. Sebastiano Liccardello, OLJ, l’avv. Francesco Greco, OLJ, l’avv. Giovanni Immordino, OLJ e l’avv. Marco Zummo, OLJ, come membri laici, nonché il Molto Reverendo Padre Prof. Ivan Ivanov, ChLJ, rappresentante del Patriarcato Ortodosso di Bulgaria in Italia e presso la Santa Sede e S.E. Padre Notker Wolf, Abate Primate Emerito dei Benedettini.

Nel corso della cerimonia hanno ricevuto le insegne di Cavaliere Compagno di merito il Presidente dell’Associazione Filarmonica Santa Cecilia di Agrigento, Signor Giuseppe Montana Lampo ed il Direttore del Coro dell’Associazione Filarmonica Santa Cecilia di Agrigento Maestro Alfonso Lo Presti, mentre la Medaglia di bronzo di merito è stata consegnata all’Associazione Filarmonica Santa Cecilia di Agrigento il cui coro accompagna sempre le cerimonie liturgiche del Gran Baliato.

Durante la cerimonia il Gran Balì, nella sua qualità di Priore, ha proceduto all’ammissione di S.E. Don Alfredo Garcia Til, Cavaliere Gran Croce di Giustizia e Commendatore Emerito di Andalusia dell’Ordine di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme nel Venerando Capitolo dei Cavalieri di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme in Monreale, associazione di diritto canonico alla quale appartengono tutti i membri cattolici del Gran Baliato di Sicilia ed alla quale possono chiedere di essere ammessi anche i membri cattolici di altre giurisdizioni.

Alla fine della cerimonia, l’Arcivescovo Pennisi ha presieduto un solenne pontificale nel corso del quale, per la prima volta, è stata celebrata la memoria propria di San Lazzaro, solo recentemente inserita da Papa Francesco nel calendario universale della Chiesa Cattolica.

Subito dopo la messa, tutti i cavalieri si sono recati in processione presso la tomba di San Luigi IX Re di Francia, nella cattedrale di Monreale, dove l’arcivescovo Pennisi ha guidato una breve preghiera per tutto l’Ordine di San Lazzaro, i cui cavalieri accompagnarono il corpo del Re San Luigi, protettore all’epoca dell’Ordine lazzarita, dalla Terra Santa alla Francia, tumulando, durante la sosta a Monreale, il suo cuore nel Duomo.

CHAPTER FOR THE INVESTITURE 2021

OF THE GRAND BAILIWICK OF SICILY

On 9 and 10 July 2021, the Chapter for the investiture of the Grand Bailiwick of Sicily was celebrated at the Chapter Church of the Sacred Heart in Monreale, presided over by the Grand Bailiff of Sicily H.E. Dr. Pino Zingale, GCLJ-J and by the Senior Chaplain of the Grand Bailiwick and Grand Spiritual Prior of the Order H.E. Mgr Michele Pennisi, GCLJ, Archbishop Abbot of Monreale.

The solemn investiture ceremony was preceded the day before by the customary Prayer Vigil.

During the Chapter, the new confreres Avv. Angelo Infantino, MLJ, Prof. Avv. Sebastiano Liccardello, OLJ, Avv. Francesco Greco, OLJ, Avv. Giovanni Immordino, OLJ and Avv. Marco Zummo, OLJ, as lay members received the investiture, as well as the Very Reverend Father Prof. Ivan Ivanov, ChLJ, representative of the Bulgarian Orthodox Patriarchate in Italy and at the Holy See and H.E. Father Notker Wolf, Abbot Primate Emeritus of the Benedictines.

During the ceremony, the President of the Santa Cecilia Philharmonic Association of Agrigento, Mr Giuseppe Montana Lampo, and the Choirmaster of the Saint Cecilia Philharmonic Association of Agrigento, Maestro Alfonso Lo Presti, received the insignia of Knight Companion of Merit, while the Bronze Medal of Merit was awarded to the Santa Cecilia Philharmonic Association of Agrigento, whose choir always accompanies the liturgical ceremonies of the Grand Bailiwick.

During the ceremony, the Grand Bailiff, as Prior, proceeded to the admission of H.E. Don Alfredo Garcia Til, Knight Grand Cross of Justice and Commander Emeritus of Andalusia of the Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem in the Venerable Chapter of the Knights of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem in Monreale, an association of canon law to which all catholic members of the Grand Bailiwick of Sicily belong and to which catholic members of other jurisdictions may also apply for admission.

At the end of the ceremony, Archbishop Pennisi presided over a solemn pontifical ceremony during which, for the first time, the memory of Saint Lazarus, only recently included by Pope Francis in the universal calendar of the Catholic Church, was celebrated.

Immediately after the mass, all knights went in procession to the tomb of St. Louis IX, King of France, in the cathedral of Monreale, where Archbishop Pennisi led a short prayer for the whole Order of St. Lazarus, whose knights accompanied the body of King St. Louis, protector at the time of the Lazarite Order, from the Holy Land to France, burying his heart in the cathedral during the stop in Monreale.
