DONATA ALL’ARCIVESCOVO ISACCHI, IN OCCASIONE DELLA PASQUA, UN’IMMAGINE DI MARIA ODIGITRIA SU CERAMICA DIPINTA A MANO

Il Gran Baliato di Sicilia, in occasione della prossima Pasqua, ha donato al proprio Cappellano Maggiore, l’Arcivescovo di Monreale Mons. Gualtiero Isacchi, ECLJ, un’immagine in ceramica, dipinta a mano, della Beata Vergine Odigitria, realizzata appositamente dalla bottega artigiana di Nino Parrucca, recante la croce dell’Ordine di San Lazzaro.

Nino Parrucca, figlio d'arte, sin dalla tenera infanzia viene iniziato al mondo dell'artigianato nella bottega dei genitori, realizzatori dei famosi carretti siciliani. In giovinezza, nel 1965, fondò l'azienda, che nel 1987 trasferì la sede in Via San Lorenzo, 291/r a Palermo dove si trova ancora oggi.

Tra le tante opere realizzate nel tempo, nel 1998 la Gioventù Francescana ha commissionato una Croce di Sant'Andrea regalata a Papa Giovanni Paolo II così apprezzata da essere conservata nelle Sale Vaticane, mentre nel 2024, in occasione del 400° anniversario del ritrovamento delle ossa di Santa Rosalia, è stato realizzato un pannello in ceramica che, in collaborazione con il Sindacato Autonomo Polizia, è stato omaggiato alla Chiesa Ecce Homo di Palermo.

Non va dimenticato, nel 2019, l'omaggio della nuova targa commemorativa per Paolo Borsellino, che sostituiva la precedente vandalizzata e che riporta una scritta scolpita nei cuori di tutti i siciliani: "Non tutti i siciliani sono mafiosi, non tutti i mafiosi sono siciliani"

AN IMAGE OF MARY ODIGITRIA, PAINTED BY HAND ON CERAMIC, WAS PRESENTED TO ARCHBISHOP ISACCHI ON THE OCCASION OF EASTER

The Grand Bailiwick of Sicily, on the occasion of the upcoming Easter, has presented its Chief Chaplain, the Archbishop of Monreale, Monsignor Gualtiero Isacchi, ECLJ, a hand-painted ceramic image of the Blessed Virgin Odigitria, specially crafted by Nino Parrucca’s artisan workshop, bearing the cross of the Order of St Lazarus.

Nino Parrucca, following in his father’s footsteps, was introduced to the world of craftsmanship from a very young age in his parents’ workshop, where they made the famous Sicilian carts. In his youth, in 1965, he founded the company, which in 1987 moved its headquarters to Via San Lorenzo, 291/r in Palermo, where it remains to this day.

Among the many works created over the years, in 1998 the Franciscan Youth commissioned a Cross of St Andrew, which was presented to Pope John Paul II and was so highly regarded that it is now kept in the Vatican Galleries; whilst in 2024, to mark the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the relics of Saint Rosalia, a ceramic panel was created which, in collaboration with the Independent Police Union, was presented to the Church of Ecce Homo in Palermo.

Nor should we forget, in 2019, the dedication of the new commemorative plaque for Paolo Borsellino, which replaced the previous one that had been vandalised and bears an inscription engraved in the hearts of all Sicilians: “Not all Sicilians are mafiosi, not all mafiosi are Sicilians”.
