MEDITAZIONE PER LA DOMENICA DI PENTECOSTE DELL’ARCIVESCOVO IAN ERNEST, ECLJ DELLA CHIESA ANGLICANA CAPPELLANO DEL GRAN BALIATO DI SICILIA

Vieni, mia Via, mia Verità, mia Vita:

Una via che ci dia respiro;

Una verità che ponga fine a ogni conflitto,

Una vita che sconfigga la morte.

George Herbert - sacerdote e poeta inglese del XVII secolo)

Mentre celebriamo la Pentecoste quest'anno, non possiamo fare a meno di desiderare ardentemente ciò che dà un nuovo significato alle nostre vite.

Mahatma Gandhi pronunciò queste parole, che sono appropriate e fonte di ispirazione: "Diventiamo ciò che desideriamo ardentemente. Da qui la necessità della preghiera."

Parole davvero appropriate, poiché desideriamo ardentemente vivere nel regno di Dio, che è ben diverso dal mondo in cui viviamo oggi.

So che, la preghiera di George Herbert, citata sopra, potrebbe aiutarci, se lo desideriamo, a ricevere lo Spirito vivente di Dio, donato a tutti coloro che ripongono la loro fiducia nelle promesse di Gesù, Figlio di Dio. Non ci ha forse assicurato che non saremmo stati lasciati soli? Sì, questo dono di grazia da parte Sua ci darà sicuramente la forza di vivere la nostra fede.

"Se mi amate, osservate i miei comandamenti. E io pregherò il Padre ed egli vi darà un altro Consolatore perché rimanga con voi per sempre: lo Spirito di verità" (Gv 14,15-17).

Quindi, mentre aneliamo a una vita nuova, siamo chiamati a pregare, affinché possiamo comprendere dove lo Spirito di verità ci sta guidando. Questo ci aiuterà certamente nella nostra ricerca di plasmare e dare forma a una nuova vita.

Quando guardiamo alla nostra vita attraverso la lente dello Spirito Santo, possiamo prendere decisioni che meglio riflettano lo scopo per cui Dio ci ha creati.

Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life:

Such a way as gives us breath;

Such a truth as ends all strife,

Such a life as kills death.

(George Herbert-17th century English priest and poet)

As we celebrate Pentecost this year, we cannot but yearn for what gives a new meaning to our lives.

Mahatma Gandhi uttered the

following words which are appropriate and inspiring:-“We become what we yearn after. hence the need for prayer.”

Very appropriate words indeed as we yearn to live within God's realm which is quite different from the world we live in today.

I know, the prayer of George Herbert, quoted above, might help us, if we so desire, to receive the living Spirit of God bestowed on all those who put their trust in the promises of Jesus, Son of God. Hasn't He assured us that we would not be left alone? Yes, this gracious gift from Him, will surely empower us to live out our faith.

"If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you for ever-the Spirit of truth.” (Jn.14.15-17).

So as we yearn for a new life, we are called to pray, so that we may understand, where the Spirit of truth is guiding us to. This will certainly help us in our quest to shape and form a new our lives.

When we look at our lives through the prism of the Holy Spirit, we can come to some decisions that will best reflect the intention for which God has made us.
