MESSAGGIO DI NATALE 2024 AI MEMBRI DELL’ORDINE DI SAN LAZZARO DI SUA ECCELLENZA REVERENDISSIMA MONS. GUALTIERO ISACCHI, ECLJ, ARCIVESCOVO DI MONREALE CAPPELLANO MAGGIORE DEL GRAN BALIATO DI SICILIA

Cari fratelli e sorelle dell’Ordine di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme,

«Ci visiterà un sole che sorge dall'alto [...] per dirigere i nostri passi sulla via della pace» (Lc 1,78-79).

"Se ciascun popolo guarderà solo al proprio dolore, allora prevarrà sempre la ragione del risentimento, della rappresaglia, della vendetta. Ma se la memoria del dolore sarà anche memoria della sofferenza dell'altro, dell'estraneo e persino del nemico, allora essa può rappresentare l'inizio di un processo di comprensione" (Card. Carlo Maria Martini).

In adorazione dell'Emmanuele, facciamo memoria dei bisogni, delle miserie, delle fragilità dell'altro.

È il primo passo per accogliere la Pace.

Sia questo, per noi, il Natale che inaugura un tempo nuovo.

CHRISTMAS MESSAGE 2024 TO THE MEMBERS OF THE ORDER OF SAINT LAZARUS OF HIS EXCELLENCY THE MOST REVEREND MONS. GUALTIERO ISACCHI, ECLJ, ARCHBISHOP OF MONREALE CHIEF CHAPLAIN OF THE GRAND BAILIWICK OF SICILY

Dear brothers and sisters of the Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem,

‘We shall be visited by a sun rising from on high [...] to direct our steps in the way of peace’ (Lk 1:78-79).

‘If each people looks only to its own sorrow, then the reason of resentment, of retaliation, of revenge will always prevail. But if the memory of pain will also be the memory of the suffering of the other, of the stranger and even of the enemy, then it can represent the beginning of a process of understanding’ (Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini).

In adoration of Emmanuel, let us remember the needs, the miseries, the frailties of the other.

This is the first step to welcoming Peace.

May this be, for us, the Christmas that inaugurates a new time.
