XI COLLOQUIUM LAZARENSIS DEL GRAN BALIATO DI SVIZZERA

Si svolgerà il 19 agosto 2023 l’XI Colloquium Lazarensis presso il Gran Baliato di Svizzera, un appuntamento annuale di approfondimento di vari temi sociali, storici e religiosi che il Gran Baliato organizza dal 2010.

Il tema di quest’anno sono “Le streghe”.

Più di 300 anni fa, molte donne in Europa erano considerate “streghe” e ritenute responsabili del male nel mondo. Si andava dal maltempo, ai cattivi raccolti, alle varie malattie, alla mucca che non dava più il latte, fino alla scomparsa dell'argenteria.

Ma il termine "strega" ha tuttora una connotazione negativa ed in Svizzera le donne sono state giustiziate per questo motivo fino al 1782.

Due i relatori: Rudolf Stauffacher, storico, e Wicca Meier-Spring, curatrice del Museo Svizzero delle Streghe, autrice di numerose pubblicazioni, è uno dei più importanti esperti in Europa sulle usanze e sulla stregoneria svizzere ed europee, narratrice, autrice ed editrice della rivista museale Mandragora; entrambi introdurranno all'affascinante argomento e spiegheranno le credenze errate, i pregiudizi e la paura che ancora esistono intorno al fenomeno della "strega", insieme alla triste storia della caccia alle streghe.

Il Colloquium si terrà a Kappel am Albis, presso la Kloster Kappel, un antico convento cistercense dedicato alla Madonna, risalente al 1185, soppresso nel 1527 a seguito della Riforma protestante di Zwingli e dal 1983 casa per il silenzio e il raccoglimento della Chiesa evangelica riformata del cantone di Zurigo.

XI COLLOQUIUM LAZARENSIS OF THE GRAND BAILIWICK OF SWITZERLAND

The 11th Colloquium Lazarensis at the Grand Bailiwick of Switzerland will take place on 19 August 2023. This is an annual event on various social, historical and religious topics that the Grand Bailiwick has organised since 2010.

This year's theme is 'Witches'.

More than 300 years ago, many women in Europe were considered 'witches' and held responsible for evil in the world. They ranged from bad weather, bad harvests, various diseases, a cow that no longer gave milk, to the disappearance of silverware.

But the term 'witch' still has a negative connotation and in Switzerland women were executed for this reason until 1782.

Two speakers: Rudolf Stauffacher, historian, and Wicca Meier-Spring, curator of the Swiss Witch Museum, author of numerous publications, one of Europe's leading experts on Swiss and European witchcraft and customs, storyteller, author and editor of the museum magazine Mandragora; both will introduce the fascinating topic and explain the misconceptions, prejudices and fear that still exist around the phenomenon of the 'witch', along with the sad history of witch hunts.

The Colloquium will be held in Kappel am Albis, at Kloster Kappel, a former Cistercian monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary, dating back to 1185, suppressed in 1527 following Zwingli's Protestant Reformation, and since 1983 a house of silence and recollection for the Evangelical Reformed Church of the Canton of Zurich.
