CELEBRATO IL 30° ANNIVERSARIO DELLA FONDAZIONE DELLA S.A.M.O. ONLUS

E’ stato celebrato presso la Chiesa Capitolare del Sacro Cuore a Monreale il 30° anniversario della fondazione della S.A.M.O. (Società per l’assistenza del malato oncologico) Onlus, nata nel 1994, ad opera di Igea Buccellato, ed opera in favore dei malati non guaribili, oncologici e non, che proprio per la loro condizione, vengono dimessi dagli ospedali e affidati alle cure domiciliari, con un intervento mirato all’assistenza diretta dell’ammalato e al sostegno delle possibili turbe psicologiche e sociali della famiglia, per il tramite delle Equipe della Associazione.

L’Associazione in epoca recente ha stipulato un protocollo d’intesa con la San Lazzaro Onlus per estendere la propria attività anche in favore degli extracomunitari, degli appartenenti alle categorie più fragile e di tutti coloro che, per svariati motivi, non sono in grado di accedere ai servizi del SSN. Lo stesso attuale Presidente della S.A.M.O., Dr. Luigi Zancla, è membro dell’Ordine di San Lazzaro.

In una chiesa colma di fedeli, moltissimi dei quali medici ed operatori volontari della S.A.M.O., il Cappellano Maggiore del Gran Baliato, Mons. Gualtiero Isacchi, ECLJ, Arcivescovo di Monreale, che ha presieduto il solenne pontificale, concelebrato, tra gli altri, dall’Abate di San Martino delle Scale, Dom Vittorio Rizzone, ECLJ, ha sottolineato la meritorietà dell’opera portata avanti dalla S.A.M.O., elogiando l’attività dei suoi membri e rimarcando il comune carisma cristiano ed assistenziale che ora la lega all’Ordine di San Lazzaro.

I canti della celebrazione sono stati eseguiti dal Coro del Santuario del Santissimo Crocefisso di Monreale.

Alla fine della celebrazione il Gran Balì ha fatto dono, all’Arcivescovo ed all’Abate di San Martino delle Scale, di due croci in lega d’argento, provenienti dall’Etiopia ed utilizzate dai sacerdoti copti per benedire il popolo, a ricordo di questo anniversario.

30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDATION OF S.A.M.O. ONLUS CELEBRATED

The 30th anniversary of the foundation of S.A.M.O. was celebrated at the Sacred Heart Chapter Church in Monreale. (Society for the Assistance of the Oncologically Sick) Onlus, founded in 1994 by Igea Buccellato, which works in favour of oncologically and non-oncologically non-healable patients who, because of their condition, are discharged from hospital and entrusted to home care, with an intervention aimed at direct assistance to the sick person and support for the possible psychological and social problems of the family, through the Association's teams.

The Association recently entered into a memorandum of understanding with the San Lazzaro Onlus to extend its activities to non-EU citizens, members of the most fragile categories, and all those who, for various reasons, are unable to access NHS services. The current President of S.A.M.O. himself, Dr Luigi Zancla, is a member of the Order of St Lazarus.

In a church filled with the faithful, many of whom were doctors and voluntary workers of the S.A.M.O., the Senior Chaplain of the Grand Bailiwick, Monsignor Gualtiero Isacchi, ECLJ, Archbishop of Monreale, who presided over the solemn pontifical service, concelebrated, among others, by the Abbot of San Martino delle Scale, Dom Vittorio Rizzone, ECLJ, underlined the meritoriousness of the work carried out by the S.A.M.O, praising the work of its members and emphasising the common Christian and charitable charism that now links it to the Order of St Lazarus.

The songs of the celebration were performed by the Choir of the Sanctuary of the Most Holy Crucifix of Monreale.

At the end of the celebration, the Grand Bailiff presented the Archbishop and the Abbot of San Martino delle Scale with two silver alloy crosses from Ethiopia, used by Coptic priests to bless the people, in memory of this anniversary.
