Il Gran Baliato di Sicilia ha effettuato una donazione per sostenere l'indispensabile progetto di ristrutturazione intrapreso dalle Suore di San Giuseppe dell'Apparizione nell'Ospedale San Luigi, situato appena fuori dalle antiche mura di Gerusalemme.

L'ospedale Saint Luigi di Gerusalemme, costruito a metà del XIX secolo, fornisce cure di fine vita a chi ne ha bisogno, indipendentemente dal credo religioso, in un Paese così diviso dalle lotte religiose, e funge da faro di carità cristiana imparziale. E’ un ospedale cattolico di proprietà della Congregazione delle Suore di San Giuseppe dell’Apparizione. Fornisce cure palliative ai malati terminali ed assistenza a pazienti cronici ed anziani, con una capacità totale di 60 posti letto.

Esso ospita pazienti provenienti da famiglie ebree (la maggior parte), musulmane e cristiane. Anche il personale è misto e ognuno si prende cura di tutti senza distinzioni.

Attualmente le donazioni dell’Ordine nel suo complesso per questo progetto ammontano a circa 100.000 euro.

Nel 2014-2016 l'Ordine ha sostenuto il progetto di ristrutturazione della cucina dell'ospedale e all'esterno dell'edificio è stata posta una targa di bronzo che identifica il sito come quello che originariamente ospitava il Lebbrosario dei Crociati.

L’Ospedale di San Luigi di Gerusalemme

L'Ospizio San Luigi di Gerusalemme si trova nel punto esatto in cui si trovava il primo convento lebbrosario crociato dell'Ordine, risalente al XII secolo. Un'opera anonima di geografia scritta intorno al 1128-1137 fa riferimento diretto a “una dimora di lebbrosi” “oltre le mura di Gerusalemme, tra la Torre di Tancredi e la Porta di Santo Stefano”. L'esatta ubicazione è inoltre raffigurata in una pianta contemporanea di Gerusalemme del 1130, che raffigura la e sec Lazari nel punto nord-occidentale al di fuori delle mura della città, tra la Torre di Tancredi [l'odierna Porta di Giaffa] e la Porta di Santo Stefano [l'odierna Porta di Damasco].

L’Ospizio prende il nome da uno dei primi sostenitori dell'Ordine, il re San Luigi IX di Francia, che alla fine donò all'Ordine il Castello di Boigny in Francia, i cui resti mortali sono sepolti nella Cattedrale di Monreale ed al quale è intitolata l’Accademia Lazzarita di Monreale.

The Grand Bailiwick of Sicily has made a donation to support the much-needed renovation project undertaken by the Sisters of St Joseph of the Apparition at St Louis Hospital, located just outside the ancient walls of Jerusalem.

Saint Louis Hospital in Jerusalem, built in the mid-19th century, provides end-of-life care to those in need, regardless of religious belief, in a country so divided by religious strife, and serves as a beacon of impartial Christian charity. It is a Catholic hospital owned by the Congregation of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Apparition. It provides palliative care for the terminally ill and care for chronic and elderly patients, with a total capacity of 60 beds.

It accommodates patients from Jewish (most), Muslim and Christian families. The staff is also mixed and everyone is cared for without distinction.

Currently, donations from the Order as a whole for this project amount to around 100,000 Euro.

In 2014-2016, the Order supported the project to renovate the hospital kitchen, and a bronze plaque was placed outside the building identifying the site as that which originally housed the Crusaders' Leprosarium.

The St. Louis of Jerusalem Hospice is located on the exact spot where the Order's first crusader leper colony, dating back to the 12th century, stood. An anonymous work of geography written around 1128-1137 makes direct reference to ‘an abode of lepers’ ‘beyond the walls of Jerusalem, between the Tower of Tancred and the Gate of St Stephen’. The exact location is also depicted in a contemporary plan of Jerusalem from 1130, which depicts the e sec Lazari at the northwestern point outside the city walls, between Tancred's Tower [today's Jaffa Gate] and St. Stephen's Gate [today's Damascus Gate].

The Hospice takes its name from one of the Order's earliest supporters, King St. Louis IX of France, who eventually donated the Castle of Boigny in France to the Order, whose mortal remains are buried in Monreale Cathedral and to whom the Lazarite Academy of Monreale is named.
