INSEDIATO IL NUOVO SACERDOTE AMMINISTRATORE DEL SANTUARIO DI NOSTRA SIGNORA DI WALSINGHAM

Conosciuto come "la Nazareth d'Inghilterra", il popolare santuario di Nostra Signora di Walsingham si trova sulla costa settentrionale dell'Anglia orientale ed è stato fondato intorno al 1061. Presso questo santuario, a cui è particolarmente legato, l'Ordine di San Lazzaro ha organizzato anni fa il proprio pellegrinaggio internazionale.

Il patrocinio reale aiutò il santuario a crescere in ricchezza e popolarità, ricevendo le visite di Enrico III, Edoardo II, Edoardo III, Enrico IV, Edoardo IV, Enrico VII ed Enrico VIII, che infine ne causò la distruzione nel 1538.

Dopo quasi quattrocento anni, il XX secolo ha visto il ripristino del pellegrinaggio a Walsingham come caratteristica regolare della vita cristiana in queste isole, e non solo. Nel 1897 si svolse un pellegrinaggio cattolico romano alla restaurata Slipper Chapel del XIV secolo, ora al centro del Santuario Nazionale Cattolico Romano.

Così, oggi, il santuario ha la peculiarità di essere contemporaneamente un santuario cattolico ed anglicano.

Sabato 16 novembre 2024, Don Ben Eadon è stato nominato dodicesimo sacerdote amministratore del Santuario di Nostra Signora di Walsingham dal Vescovo anglicano di Norwich, il Reverendo Graham Usher.

Alla cerimonia di insediamento erano presenti, in rappresentanza del Gran Priorato d'Inghilterra e Galles, il Rev. John Eldridge SChLJ, il Vescovo Lindsay Urwin ECLJ, l'Ospedaliere Daniel Morris KLJ ed il Balì David Woolf KCLJ; hanno presenziato anche il Lord Luogotenente di Sua Maestà del Norfolk, Lady Dannatt, ed il Generale Lord Dannatt.

Il Cancelliere del Collegio dei Guardiani, il Rev. Prebendario Graeme Rowlands, ha insediato l'Amministratore nel suo stallo nel Santuario.

NEW PRIEST ADMINISTRATOR OF OUR LADY OF WALSINGHAM SHRINE INSTALLED

Known as ‘the Nazareth of England’, the popular shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham is located on the north coast of East Anglia and was founded around 1061. At this shrine, to which it is particularly attached, the Order of St. Lazarus organised its international pilgrimage years ago.

Royal patronage helped the shrine to grow in wealth and popularity, receiving visits from Henry III, Edward II, Edward III, Henry IV, Edward IV, Henry VII and Henry VIII, who finally caused its destruction in 1538.

After almost four hundred years, the 20th century saw the re-establishment of the pilgrimage to Walsingham as a regular feature of Christian life in these islands and beyond. In 1897, a Roman Catholic pilgrimage took place to the restored 14th century Slipper Chapel, now the centrepiece of the Roman Catholic National Shrine.

Thus, today, the shrine has the distinction of being both a Catholic and Anglican shrine.

On Saturday, 16 November 2024, Fr Ben Eadon was appointed 12th priest administrator of the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham by the Anglican Bishop of Norwich, the Reverend Graham Usher.

Present at the installation ceremony, representing the Grand Priory of England and Wales, were Rev. John Eldridge SChLJ, Bishop Lindsay Urwin ECLJ, Hospitaller Daniel Morris KLJ and Bailiff David Woolf KCLJ; also present were Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, Lady Dannatt, and General Lord Dannatt.

The Chancellor of the College of Guardians, the Rev. Prebendary Graeme Rowlands, installed the Administrator in his stall in the Sanctuary.
