MEDITAZIONE PER LA DOMENICA IN ALBIS O DOMENICA QUASIMODOGENITI DI SUA GRAZIA IL MOLTO REV.DO IAN ERNEST, ECLJ, GCSK ARCIVESCOVO DELLA PROVINCIA ANGLICANA DELL’OCEANO INDIANO CAPPELLANO DEL GRAN BALIATO DI SICILIA

Carissimi Confratelli e Consorelle dell’Ordine Militare ed Ospedaliero di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme,

Sulla scia delle celebrazioni pasquali, vere prospettive di speranza sembrano illuminare i nostri cuori e le nostre anime in mezzo alle afflizioni che tendono a generare uno stato di disperazione.

Queste prospettive non nascono da una fervida o ingenua immaginazione, ma sono frutti offerti da Cristo Risorto, il cui dono al mondo è la pace. Le prime parole di Cristo, la sera della risurrezione, ai suoi discepoli spaventati sono:

"Pace a voi!".

Mentre il mondo attraversa tempi difficili, in cui oppressione, divisioni, guerre, violenza, paura, estrema disuguaglianza economica e affermazioni contrastanti sulla verità opprimono la nostra esistenza, posso immaginare che ascoltare queste parole di Gesù possa essere un'esperienza rivelatrice nel nostro confronto quotidiano con un mondo che sembra così sbagliato.

Qualunque cosa incontriamo e sperimentiamo, per quanto possiamo essere divisi, qualunque cosa possiamo lamentarci, qualunque cosa ci addolori, sotto tutto ciò si cela la verità che, attraverso la Risurrezione di Cristo, scopriamo che la felicità di tutta l'umanità è vissuta nel cuore della bellezza e della bontà di Dio.

Questi attributi di Dio sono meravigliosamente espressi dalla vittoria di suo Figlio, nostro Signore Gesù, sulle tenebre e sulla morte e pienamente rivelati ai suoi discepoli la prima notte della sua risurrezione. Così, Gesù ristabilisce la bellezza di Dio offuscata dalla nostra mancanza di rispetto per la sua volontà e la sua bontà.

Siamo quindi chiamati a contemplare la bellezza di Dio attraverso la presenza del Signore Risorto che condivide con noi la dolcezza del suo Amore e lo splendore della sua Pace. Da questa presenza, emergono nuove prospettive di speranza e la vita cristiana si rinnova, rendendo vera testimonianza dell'amore redentore di Dio.

Queste nuove prospettive, che esaltano lo splendore della Pace, affermano che Dio è l'autore della Pace, una pace che il mondo non può dare. Sarebbe quindi bene per noi cogliere la meravigliosa opportunità che questo momento di grande esaltazione della risurrezione di Cristo ci offre, per impegnarci nella costruzione della pace, poiché ciò ci aiuterà a sostenere il nostro Dio vivente, dal quale la pace trabocca.

Purtroppo, nel mondo di oggi molti rifiutano la pace di Cristo, ma Dio va oltre la malvagità umana e la nostra mancanza d'amore. Attraverso Gesù, Egli sfida il nostro comportamento disumanizzante, rendendo le ferite di Gesù un segno d'amore e la sua risurrezione una presenza viva.

Pertanto, ciò che Dio richiede a tutti noi è di camminare umilmente con Lui. Solo allora possiamo amare la pace e praticare la giustizia. Questa perfetta risposta all'appello di un Dio pacificatore è di applicazione universale, rilevante per qualsiasi nazione in qualsiasi secolo e fonte di speranza per il nostro mondo ferito. In tempi di divisione, tumulto e paura, questa verità fondamentale, che esalta il Cristo risorto, ci chiama tutti alla speranza che può sembrare impossibile in questa vita. Tuttavia, con una fiducia incondizionata nelle parole del Figlio di Dio, possiamo assaporare un assaggio del futuro promesso da Dio. Che la bellezza dell'amore e della pace di Dio sia con tutti voi.

MEDITATION FOR ALBI SUNDAY OR QUASIMODOGENITE SUNDAY BY HIS GRACE THE MOST REV. IAN ERNEST, ECLJ, GCSK ARCHBISHOP OF THE ANGLICAN PROVINCE OF THE INDIAN OCEAN CHAPLAIN OF THE GRAND BAILIWICK OF SICILY

Dear Confreres and Sisters of the Military and Hospitaller Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem,

In the wake of the Easter celebration, true perspectives of hope seem to enlighten our hearts and souls in the midst of afflictions which tend to bring about a state of hopelessness.

These perspectives do not arise from a fertile or naïve imagination but are fruits which are offered by the Risen Christ whose gift to the world is peace. The first words of Christ on the first evening of the resurrection to his frightened disciples are: -

"Peace be with you!”

As the world goes through troubled times when oppression, divisions, wars, violence, fear, extreme wealth inequality, conflicting assertions to truth overburden our existence, I can just envision, that hearing these words from Jesus could be a revealing experience in our daily confrontation with a world that seems so wrong.

Whatever we encounter and experience, however we may be divided, whatever we may lament, whatever we grieve underneath all that is the truth that through the Resurrection of Christ, we discover that the happiness of all humanity is lived at the heart of the beauty and goodness of God.

These attributes of God are wonderfully expressed by the victory of his Son, our Lord Jesus, over darkness and death and fully disclosed to his disciples on the first night of his resurrection. So, Jesus puts back into place the beauty of God tarnished by our lack of respect for His will and goodness. We are thus called to contemplate God’s beauty through the presence of the Risen Lord who shares with us the sweetness of His Love and the splendour of His Peace. From this presence, new perspectives of hope appear and Christian living revives as it bears true witness to God’s redeeming love.

These new perspectives which elevate the splendour of Peace affirm that God is the author of the Peace, a peace that the world cannot give. It would then be good for us to seize the wonderful opportunity, that this moment of great exaltation of the resurrection of Christ is offering us, to engage in peacemaking as it will help us to sustain our living God from whom peace overflows.

Unfortunately, in today's world many refuse the peace of Christ but God goes further in his approach beyond human wickedness and our lack of love. Through Jesus, He challenges our dehumanising behaviour as He makes the wounds of Jesus a sign of love and his resurrection a living presence.

Therefore, what God requires of all of us is to walk humbly with him. It is only then that we can love peace and do justice. This perfect response to the appeal from a peace- making God is of universal application, relevant to any nation in any century and a source of hope to our broken world.

In times of division and turmoil and fear, this fundamental truth which exalts the risen Christ calls us all to the hope that may seem, impossible in this life. However, with an unconditional trust in the words of the Son of God, we can experience a foretaste of God’s promised future.

May the beauty of God’s love and peace be with you all.
