MEDITAZIONE PER LA SETTIMANA DI PREGHIERA PER L’UNITA’ DEI CRISTIANI DI SUA GRAZIA L’ARCIVESCOVO IAN ERNEST, GCLJ, GCSK

“Beati quelli che non hanno visto eppure sono arrivati a credere”.

“Il tema scelto per la celebrazione della Settimana di preghiera per l'unità dei cristiani di quest'anno ci invita a celebrare la fede comune che condividiamo, espressa nel Credo niceno, elaborato 1.700 anni fa durante il Concilio di Nicea.

Le letture di questa settimana di preghiera guidano la nostra riflessione sul tema “Tu ci credi?” e, quindi, esaminano in modo pertinente il nostro attuale cammino di seguaci di Gesù.

Le Scritture scelte per la celebrazione ecumenica della Parola di Dio confermano l'amore redentore di Dio, che si manifesta in Cristo, il quale viene nel mondo per camminare con l'intera umanità.

Questo ci apre la possibilità di vivere la nostra vita nella sua signoria e nel suo amore, che creano, liberano e salvano. Ma, poiché siamo quotidianamente sfidati dai venti del secolarismo che tendono a emarginare la presenza viva e amorosa di Dio, abbiamo bisogno, come battezzati, di essere rinnovati nella nostra fede. E questo rinnovamento della nostra fede è necessario, infatti, per il bene del mondo, che Dio ama tanto.La fede nel Nuovo Testamento è definita come la completa fiducia e l'abbandono a Gesù Cristo, il Signore risorto.

Un elemento comune a tutti i cristiani è il nostro impegno a offrirci all'amore di Dio manifestato in e attraverso Cristo. La fede è un dono di Dio attraverso Gesù, e noi costruiamo un rapporto con Dio e con gli altri con una fiducia che va oltre i nostri pregiudizi. Questa unità e fedeltà reciproca in una fede precede ogni altra fedeltà. È a causa della nostra fede in Cristo, con la quale siamo legati, che nessuna potenza può separarci.

Così, poiché nostro Signore Gesù Cristo è l'unico oggetto della fede e della speranza di tutti i cristiani, dobbiamo lasciarci plasmare da Dio nelle nostre relazioni con Lui e tra di noi.

Per concludere, vorrei citare l'apostolo Paolo: “Affinché Cristo abiti nei vostri cuori per mezzo della fede, mentre siete radicati e fondati nell'amore, vi prego di conoscere l'amore di Cristo che supera la conoscenza, affinché siate ricolmi di tutta la pienezza di Dio” (Efesini 3,17-18).

PREGHIERA:Padre celeste, fa' che ci rivolgiamo a te mentre cerchiamo di dare un senso alla nostra vita. Amen.

MEDITATION FOR THE WEEK OF PRAYER FOR THE UNITY OF CHRISTIANS BY HIS GRACE ARCHBISHOP IAN ERNEST, GCLJ, GCSK

“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

The theme chosen for this year’s celebration of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity invites us to celebrate the common faith we share as expressed in the Nicene Creed, elaborated 1,700 years ago at the Council of Nicaea. It affirms our belief in God and our faithfulness to his Son, Jesus, the Risen Lord and Saviour of the World.

The readings for this week of prayer guide our reflections as we ponder the theme “Do you believe this?” and, thus, pertinently examine our present journey as followers of Jesus.

The Scriptures chosen for the ecumenical celebration of the Word of God confirm God’s redeeming love, manifest in Christ who comes into the world to journey with the whole of humanity. This opens to us the possibility of living our lives in his lordship and his love, which create, liberate and save.

But, as we are daily challenged by the winds of secularism that tend to marginalise the living and loving presence of God, there is a need for us, as the baptised, to be renewed in our faith. And this renewal of our faith is needed, in fact, for the sake of the world, which God loves so much.

Faith in the New Testament is defined as the complete trust and surrender to Jesus Christ, the Risen Lord. One element which is common to all Christians is our pledge to offer ourselves to the love of God as manifested in and through Christ.

Faith is a gift from God through Jesus, and we build up a relationship with God and with each other with trust beyond our prejudices. This unity and loyalty to each other in one faith precedes all other loyalty. It is because of our belief in Christ, by which we are bound together, that no power should be able to put us asunder.

Thus, as our Lord Jesus Christ is the one object of the faith and hope of all Christians, we have to let ourselves be moulded by God in our relationships with Him and with one another.

To conclude, I wish to quote the Apostle Paul: “That Christ may dwell in your hearts through Faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love, I pray that you may know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:17-18).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, may we turn to you as we seek to give a sense of purpose to our lives. Amen.
