RICORDO DI PAPA FRANCESCO DEL MOLTO REVERENDO DAVID HAMID, ECLJ VESCOVO SUFFRAGANEO EMERITO DELLA DIOCESI ANGLICANA DI GIBILTERRA IN EUROPA

Riposa in pace Papa Francesco.

Tante persone in tutto il mondo e certamente i cristiani di tutto il mondo sono in lutto per la morte dell'amato Papa Francesco. È stato un grande uomo, un pastore amorevole per tutti i cristiani, un instancabile sostenitore della pace e della giustizia, un seguace di Cristo al servizio dei poveri e degli emarginati, una voce globale di primo piano per la cura del nostro pianeta e un essere umano compassionevole e caloroso.

Ha sostenuto con convinzione il dialogo ufficiale tra la Chiesa cattolica e la Comunione anglicana. Faccio tesoro delle sue parole, che hanno guidato il mio ruolo di co-presidente della IARCCUM, la Commissione Internazionale Anglicana Romana Cattolica per l'Unità e la Missione, che promuove il massimo impegno nella missione e nella testimonianza congiunta tra le nostre Chiese, anche se la piena comunione visibile non è ancora stata raggiunta. Egli ha detto: "Il dialogo teologico deve essere ricercato per cercare le radici ... ... su tante cose su cui non siamo ancora d'accordo. . . Tuttavia, questo non può essere fatto in un laboratorio: deve essere fatto camminando, lungo la strada. Il dialogo ecumenico è un cammino, e le cose teologiche si discutono lungo la strada".

Le mie più sentite condoglianze a tutti nella Chiesa cattolica, in particolare ai miei stretti colleghi, vescovi, clero e laici, con i quali ho collaborato per molti anni. Mi unisco a loro nel dolore e nella tristezza.

Che Papa Francesco possa ora ricevere la sua ricompensa di fedele servitore di Cristo e gloriarsi del dono della resurrezione futura, che celebriamo in questo tempo pasquale.

REMEMBRANCE OF POPE FRANCIS BY THE VERY REVEREND DAVID HAMID, ECLJ SUFFRAGAN BISHOP EMERITUS OF THE ANGLICAN DIOCESE OF GIBRALTAR IN EUROPE

Rest in peace Pope Francis.

So many people around the world and certainly Christians everywhere are mourning the death of beloved Pope Francis. He was a great man, a loving pastor to all Christians, a tireless advocate for peace and justice, a follower of Christ in service to the poor and marginalised, a leading global voice for the care of our planet, and a warm-hearted compassionate human being.

He wholeheartedly supported the official dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion. I treasure his words which guided my role as Co-Chairman of IARCCUM, the International Anglican Roman Catholic Commission for Unity and Mission which promotes the fullest engagement in mission and joint witness between our Churches even though full visible communion is not yet achieved. He said “The theological dialogue must be sought to seek the roots . . . on so many things on which we are not yet in agreement . . . However, this can’t be done in a laboratory: it must be done walking, along the way. The ecumenical dialogue is a path, and theological things are discussed on the way”.

My deepest condolences to all in the Catholic Church, especially to my close colleagues, bishops, clergy and laity, with whom I have collaborated for many years. I join with them in their sorrow and grief.

May Pope Francis now receive his reward as a faithful servant of Christ and glory in the gift of the resurrection to come, which we celebrate in this Eastertide.
