SANTITÀ,

Con gioia spirituale nel cuore abbiamo appreso della Sua elezione canonica e apostolica al trono della Cattedra del Santo Apostolo Pietro. In risposta alla chiamata di Dio, sulla via dell'umile servizio, sulla via della dedizione missionaria, dell'insegnamento della saggezza e della fedeltà apostolica, e per volontà dei tuoi confratelli cardinali, Lei è stato eletto Vescovo della Diocesi di Roma e guida della Chiesa Cattolica, come espressione di responsabilità cristiana e di dovere verso la fede.

Nel Suo ministero ecclesiale, Lei non ha solo predicato il Vangelo, ma ha anche edificato, insegnato, servito e fondato delle comunità cristiane in tutto il mondo, portando la pace di Cristo. Lei a anche invocato questa pace di Cristo nella Sua prima predica come Papa dal balcone della Basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano.

In questi tempi difficili e cruciali per il mondo e per la Chiesa, Lei ha dichiarato la Sua intenzione di vivere in Cristo Risorto e, mentre si poggia sulle solide fondamente poste dai Suoi tre grandi predecessori – Papa Leone XIII, Papa Benedetto XVI e Papa Francesco – preghiamo che Lei possa dare il Suo contributo apostolico alla Chiesa, come Corpo mistico di Cristo.

Speriamo e crediamo che la Sua nuova missione contribuirà anche alla continuazione dell'amore fraterno e della devozione dei Suoi fratelli più vicini nella fede in Cristo, come lo siamo noi gli Ortodossi, e ci aspettiamo con speranza che Lei continui l'opera dell'unità cristiana secondo le parole di Cristo: che possiamo essere tutti in un solo Corpo (cfr. Gv 17:21), e l'apostolo Paolo ci ricorda nella prima Lettera ai Corinzi: "E come il corpo è uno e ha molte membra, e tutte le membra di quell'unico corpo, pur essendo molte, sono un solo corpo, così è anche Cristo". (1 Cor 12:12).

HOLINESS,

With spiritual joy in our hearts we have learned of your canonical and apostolic election to the throne of the Chair of the Holy Apostle Peter. In response to God's call, on the path of humble service, on the path of missionary dedication, teaching wisdom and apostolic fidelity, and by the will of your brother cardinals, you have been elected Bishop of the Diocese of Rome and leader of the Catholic Church, as an expression of Christian responsibility and duty to the faith.

In your ecclesial ministry, you have not only preached the Gospel, but have also built, taught, served and founded Christian communities throughout the world, bringing the peace of Christ. You even invoked this peace of Christ in your first sermon as Pope from the balcony of St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.

In these difficult and crucial times for the world and for the Church, you have declared your intention to live in the Risen Christ, and as you rest on the solid foundations laid by your three great predecessors - Pope Leo XIII, Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis - we pray that you will be able to make your apostolic contribution to the Church as the Mystical Body of Christ.

We hope and believe that your new mission will also contribute to the continuation of the brotherly love and devotion of your closest brothers and sisters in faith in Christ, as we Orthodox are, and we hope that you will continue the work of Christian unity according to the words of Christ: that we may all be in one Body (cf. Jn 17:21), and the Apostle Paul reminds us in the First Letter to the Corinthians: "And as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of that one body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ". (1 Cor 12:12).
